Thane, 29th Feb. The Indian Navy marked a significant milestone on February 28, 2024, with the launch of the ‘Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile Barge, LSAM 18’, the fourth barge of the 11 x ACTCM Barge Project. Constructed by MSME Shipyard, M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd, located in Thane, the launching ceremony was graced by Cmde Shirish Dube from the Directorate of Ship Production.
The contract for constructing the 11 X ACTCM Barge was inked between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd, Thane, on March 5, 2021.
The introduction of these barges is poised to bolster the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy by facilitating the transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of articles and ammunition to IN Ships, both alongside jetties and at outer harbors.
These indigenous barges have been meticulously designed and built in compliance with the relevant Naval Rules and Regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping. Model testing of the barge during the design phase was conducted at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam.
These barges stand as proud symbols of the Make in India initiative spearheaded by the Government of India (GoI).
