New Delhi, 21st Aug: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Thursday said that Shubhanshu Shukla’s space voyage symbolizes the vision of an Atmanirbhar and Vishwabandhu Bharat, reflecting the flagship mantras championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking at an ISRO press conference where he formally introduced astronauts Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla and Group Captain Prasanth B. Nair, Singh said their achievements embody India’s growing stature in global space exploration.
He highlighted three key principles steering India’s mission:
- Atmanirbhar Bharat – use of indigenous technology and kits.
- Whole of Nation approach – collaborations with IITs, IISc, and biotech institutions.
- Vishwabandhu Bharat – ensuring experiments benefit humanity at large.
Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian to travel to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Axiom-4 mission, shared how his experiences aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft will directly aid India’s upcoming Gaganyaan programme. He said the mission not only tested human endurance and scientific collaboration but also inspired countless children to dream of becoming astronauts. “That, for me, was the biggest win—that kids are already dreaming of space,” he said.
Prasanth B. Nair, who trained alongside Shukla, said India’s achievements are met with global admiration, underscoring the nation’s progress with humility and inclusivity. “India’s approach to space reflects the belief in the oneness of humanity,” he remarked, adding that the work of ISRO, policymakers, and citizens has made this progress possible.
ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan briefed the gathering on India’s Human Space Flight Programme and preparations for Gaganyaan, describing it as a critical step in positioning India as a leading player in future human space exploration.
The Minister emphasized that India’s expanding space presence is driven by openness, innovation, and private sector participation. He said the astronauts’ experiences will inspire young Indians to view space as a career and national calling, strengthening the country’s long-term ambitions.
