Anshas, 22nd Jan.
A contingent of 25 personnel from the Indian Army has arrived in Egypt to participate in the second edition of the India-Egypt Joint Special Forces Exercise called ‘Cyclone’. The exercise will take place in Anshas, Egypt from January 22nd to February 1st, 2024. The first edition of the exercise was held in India last year.

The Indian contingent consists of troops from The Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), while the Egyptian contingent is represented by the Egyptian Commando Squadron and Egyptian Airborne Platoon, totaling 25 personnel.

The aim of the exercise is to familiarize both sides with each other’s operating procedures in the context of Special Operations in desert and semi-desert terrain, as outlined in Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. Exercise Cyclone is designed to enhance bilateral military cooperation and strengthen the bond between the two armies through discussions and tactical military drills.

The exercise will involve planning and executing special operations in the sub-conventional domain, divided into three phases. The first phase will include military exhibitions and tactical interactions, the second phase will focus on training for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), counter-IED measures, and combat first aid. The third and final phase will involve a joint tactical exercise based on fighting in built-up areas and hostage rescue scenarios.

The exercise will provide an opportunity for both contingents to strengthen their bond and share best practices. It will also serve as a platform to achieve shared security objectives and foster bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.
