New Delhi, 11th June: An Indian Army contingent arrived today in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, for Exercise KHAAN QUEST, a multinational military drill set to run from June 14 to June 28, 2025. This exercise brings together military forces globally to boost their peacekeeping skills. The last KHAAN QUEST was held in Mongolia from July 27 to August 9, 2024.
KHAAN QUEST started as a two-sided event between the U.S. and Mongolian armed forces in 2003. By 2006, it grew into a multinational peacekeeping exercise, with this year being its 22nd iteration.
The Indian Army team includes 40 personnel, mostly from a Battalion of the KUMAON REGIMENT, plus members from other branches. Notably, it also includes one Woman Officer and two Woman Soldiers.
The main goal of KHAAN QUEST is to prepare the Indian Armed Forces for peacekeeping missions in a multinational setting. This will improve their ability to work together and their military readiness for peace support operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The exercise will focus on high physical fitness, joint planning, and tactical drills.
Planned tactical drills include setting up Static and Mobile Check Points, Cordon and Search Operations, Patrolling, evacuating civilians from hostile areas, Counter Improvised Explosive Device (IED) drills, Combat First Aid, and Casualty Evacuation.
Exercise KHAAN QUEST will allow participating countries to share their best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for joint operations. It’s designed to build cooperation, goodwill, and camaraderie among soldiers from all nations involved.
