New Delhi, 30th Aug: Union Pharmaceuticals Secretary Amit Agrawal on Friday said that India is rapidly emerging as a global hub for medical technology, driven by affordable and innovative healthcare solutions.

Speaking at the 17th CII Global MedTech Summit 2025 in New Delhi, he underlined that government policies and industry competitiveness are propelling the MedTech sector towards sustained double-digit growth.

Addressing the opening plenary, Agrawal highlighted that India’s MedTech sector must remain patient-centric and focus on producing high-quality, cost-effective medical devices for both domestic and international markets.

“Products that seemed impossible to manufacture locally a decade ago are now made in India — from MRI and CT scan machines to stents, heart valves, dialysis machines, and advanced implants,” he said, noting India’s growing self-reliance in high-end medical devices.

He pointed to government support through the upcoming three dedicated medical device parks, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, and the soon-to-be launched ₹5,000 crore PRIP Scheme (Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech Sector). These initiatives, he said, will enhance cost competitiveness, expand production efficiency, and deepen domestic value chains.

Agrawal called for stronger collaboration between innovators, entrepreneurs, and investors to accelerate the journey from laboratory research to market-ready products, ensuring India’s leadership in global healthcare innovation. He emphasized that India is being recognized not just as a healthcare market but as a leader in MedTech innovation.

“Countries worldwide now look to India as a source of affordable and innovative healthcare solutions,” he said, adding that the sector has the potential to generate millions of jobs while providing accessible and quality healthcare. He invited all stakeholders to contribute towards shaping India’s MedTech vision in line with Viksit Bharat 2047.
