India–Switzerland Partnership Gains Fresh Momentum at AI Summit

New Delhi, 20th Feb: President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. President Parmelin is on a two-day visit to India from February 19–20 to participate in the global AI gathering.

The two leaders reaffirmed the friendly and multifaceted relationship between India and Switzerland, reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation including trade and investment, science and technology, innovation, skill development, cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties.

They welcomed the positive momentum generated by the implementation of the recently concluded India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). Switzerland, as a key member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), is expected to play a central role in expanding trade and investment flows under the pact.

Both leaders underscored that TEPA holds immense potential to significantly boost economic engagement between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi and President Parmelin agreed to strengthen collaboration in innovation-led growth, joint research initiatives, sharing of best practices and capacity-building through training and skill development programmes.

They also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.

The Prime Minister welcomed Switzerland’s initiative to host the next AI Summit, which will be followed by the United Arab Emirates, further strengthening global cooperation in responsible and inclusive AI development.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to elevate the India–Switzerland partnership to new heights across strategic, economic and technological domains.
