Chandipur, 20th Aug: In a major move, India successfully conducted a test of the Agni-5 missile on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. The test, conducted from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, Odisha, was a key step in strengthening the nation’s defense capabilities.
The Agni-5, a medium-range ballistic missile, is nuclear-capable and has a strike range of approximately 5,000 kilometers, bringing a large part of the world, including almost all of Asia, within its reach. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the missile met all its operational and technical parameters during the test.
A significant feature of the missile is its MIRV (Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle) technology. This capability allows a single Agni-5 missile to carry multiple nuclear warheads, enabling it to hit several different targets simultaneously. Only a few countries in the world possess this advanced technology.
Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Agni-5 was created to address India’s long-term security needs. While the Agni-1 to Agni-4 missiles are already deployed, the Agni-5 provides a crucial enhancement to the country’s strategic deterrence.
