India-Singapore Defence Talks Focus on Maritime Security, Training & Tech

Singapore, 5th Sept: The 16th India-Singapore Defence Working Group (DWG) meeting was held in Singapore on September 4, 2025, reinforcing the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
The meeting was co-chaired by Shri Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), Ministry of Defence, India, and Col Daxson Yap, Director, Policy Office, Ministry of Defence, Singapore.
Officials reviewed the progress made on the implementation of decisions taken during the last Defence Ministers’ Dialogue, along with other ongoing bilateral defence cooperation initiatives. The talks provided a platform to exchange defence perspectives and accelerate initiatives covering a wide range of engagements, from training and capability building to industry, technology, maritime security, and regional cooperation.
The deliberations were guided by the Joint Statement on the Roadmap for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, issued after the recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in New Delhi.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the ongoing defence collaboration and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in emerging domains, including cyber security and global commons.
The meeting carried special significance as 2025 marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore. Officials underscored the pivotal role of Singapore in India’s Act East Policy, promoting strategic connectivity, economic partnerships, and cultural ties across the Indo-Pacific.
On the sidelines, Shri Amitabh Prasad met BG Fredrick Choo, Deputy Secretary Policy, and visited the Information Fusion Centre and the ADMM Cyber Security and Information Centre of Excellence at Changi Naval Base.
