Visakhapatnam, 21st June: A new chapter in yoga history was written on Saturday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi led over 3.01 lakh participants in a yoga session at RK Beach, Visakhapatnam, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest yoga gathering at a single venue. The event, marking the 11th International Day of Yoga, surpassed the previous record set by Surat in 2023, which had 1.47 lakh participants.

Joining the Prime Minister were Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, and several Union and state ministers. The session was held across a 28-kilometre stretch from RK Beach to Bhogapuram and concluded the state’s month-long ‘Yogandhra’ campaign, which mobilised over 2.17 crore participants statewide.

The vibrant event saw participation from across society — political leaders, bureaucrats, students, professionals, senior citizens, tribal communities, and women — all performing yoga asanas in unison along the scenic coastline. About 11,000 Navy personnel and family members joined from the Eastern Naval Command, with yoga sessions also conducted aboard naval vessels anchored offshore.

The meticulous organisation featured 326 designated compartments, managed by over 607 Urban Secretariats and supported by rural counterparts. Following the event, representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records presented certificates to ministers Nara Lokesh and Satya Kumar for both Saturday’s record and another set the previous day — a mass Surya Namaskar session featuring 22,122 tribal students.

Expressing gratitude, Minister Nara Lokesh dedicated the world record to Prime Minister Modi, calling it a “gift from the people of Andhra.” He noted the event’s overwhelming success, attributing it to public awareness and participation driven by the Yogandhra campaign.
