WASHINGTON – The National Investigation Agency on Thursday said that it has contacted the US authorities to probe the links of Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Pakistani-Canadian businessman convicted in the US for his role in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
The official sources quoted in media reports that the Indian agency has sent a set of specific queries to its U.S. counterparts, seeking information on Rana’s potential connections to Pakistani entities.
The NIA is investigating his role in the larger conspiracy behind the 26/11 attacks.
An NIA official, spoke on condition of anonymity, stated, “There has been some progress in gathering information. We have sent the U.S. a set of queries and are currently awaiting their response.”
The move is part of India’s ongoing efforts to gather further evidence and uncover the complete network behind the Mumbai terror attacks.
The NIA filed a supplementary charge sheet against Rana in the case pertaining to a criminal conspiracy hatched by David Coleman Headley, Tahawwur Hussain Rana and other members of LeT and HUJI to carry out terrorist attacks in different parts of India.
