New Delhi, 5th Jan. India recorded 761 new COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths due to the virus, according to Union health ministry data on Friday.
The number of active cases in the country has slightly decreased from 4,423 to 4,334, as of 8 am today.
Kerala has the highest number of active cases with 1,249, followed by Karnataka with 1,240, Maharashtra with 914, Tamil Nadu with 190, and Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh with 128 each.
Out of the 12 reported deaths, five were from Kerala, four from Karnataka, two from Maharashtra, and one from Uttar Pradesh.
During the peak of the pandemic in early 2020, the daily numbers were in the lakhs. Over the past four years, more than 4.5 crore people have been infected and over 5.3 lakh have died across the country.
Over 4.4 crore people have recovered from the disease, resulting in a national recovery rate of 98.81%, according to the ministry’s website.
As of now, 220.67 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country.
