New Delhi, 28th Nov: India is preparing to accelerate its transition toward green-fuel-based agricultural technologies over the next decade, with the government urging the industry to align with the sector’s Vision 2047. Speaking at the 9th International Exhibition & Conference on Agri-Machinery at EIMA Agrimach India 2025, Agriculture Secretary Dr Devesh Chaturvedi said the shift towards electrically operated machinery and CBG-powered equipment must begin within the next 5–10 years to reduce costs for farmers and promote sustainability.
Addressing the event organised by FICCI and Italian agricultural industry body FEDERUNACOMA, Dr Chaturvedi highlighted the need for gender-friendly equipment to ease the workload of women farmers. He noted that with the United Nations declaring 2026 the International Year of Women Farmers, industry must prioritise tools that genuinely reduce drudgery rather than limiting gender budgeting to ownership transfers.
Italian Ambassador to India Antonio Bartoli announced that efforts are underway to establish an Agriculture Attaché at the Italian Embassy to strengthen bilateral cooperation. He said both countries aim to boost trade under the new Joint Strategic Action Plan, targeting EUR 20 billion in volume.
Industry leaders underscored evolving trends in farm mechanisation. T.R. Kesavan, Chairman of the EIMA Agrimach India Organising Committee, pushed for promoting “agriculture as a service”, arguing that high-cost equipment like seeders are more viable through shared-access models. The FICCI-PwC report ‘Farm Mechanisation: The Path Towards a Future-Ready India’ released at the event also recommended a pay-per-use approach.
Italian industry representatives expressed optimism about growing bilateral engagement, with Federunacoma projecting India’s agri-machinery sector to rise from USD 13.7 billion in 2023 to USD 31.6 billion by 2033.
The three-day exhibition at IARI, Pusa, features over 175 exhibitors from India, Italy, Poland, Japan, the Netherlands and business visitors from more than 40 countries. Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, the event is showcasing the latest mechanisation solutions and hosting sessions to create awareness among farmers on emerging technologies.
