New Delhi, 29th Nov: India is advancing its focus on evidence-based integrative healthcare as the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), under the Ministry of Ayush, gears up to host a two-day International Conference on Ayurveda and Integrative Approaches to Obesity & Metabolic Syndrome from December 1–2 at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. The event also marks the 57th Foundation Day of CCRAS.
Organised by the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Bengaluru, in partnership with IISc and NIMHANS, the conference aims to address the rising global incidence of obesity and metabolic disorders through scientifically validated Ayurvedic and integrative medical practices.
Minister of State (IC) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, said India continues to strengthen its integrative healthcare framework, with Ayurveda playing a central role. He noted that obesity and metabolic disorders remain among the most urgent public-health challenges. “This conference reflects our resolve to strengthen evidence-based approaches that combine the knowledge of Ayurveda with the rigor of modern medical science,” he said.
The Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, underlined that the growing burden of metabolic diseases demands collaborative, research-driven interventions. “Ayurveda’s preventive and personalised approach becomes even more impactful when integrated with contemporary biomedical advancements,” the Secretary said.
CCRAS Director General Dr. Rabinarayan Acharya emphasised the scientific importance of the programme, stating that the conference aims to bridge traditional Ayurvedic wisdom with cutting-edge biomedical research. He said the outcomes are expected to influence integrative care frameworks, translational research and global health policy.
Conference Organizing Secretary Dr. Sucholachana Bhatt said the event gathers experts from Ayurveda, modern medicine, life sciences and public health to explore solutions to obesity and metabolic disorders. She added that a special issue of the CCRAS research journal JDRAS focused on obesity would be released, along with ten additional research publications.
The conference will feature plenary sessions, parallel scientific sessions and a symposium on integrative management of Type-2 Diabetes, obesity and dyslipidemia. A dedicated workshop on Nanotechnology & Molecular Biology will be held at IISc’s TCS Smart-X Hub on December 2. A health screening camp by Samatvam, PathShodh and CARI will be available on both days. Pre-conference virtual deliberations were conducted from November 25–27.
More than 700 delegates are expected to participate, with 267 oral presentations, 120 virtual presentations, 70 posters and 16 plenary talks.
