Kottayam, 9th Dec: India Post on Tuesday unveiled a first-of-its-kind Gen-Z Post Office extension counter at CMS College in Kottayam, introducing a modern, youth-friendly postal space designed to connect the new generation with essential services in an engaging way. The facility was inaugurated by Shri N.R. Giri, Director Postal Services (Kerala Central Region).

The project stands out for its unique concept — “Of the students, by the students, for the students.” The entire space was imagined, planned and co-created by CMS College students in collaboration with India Post officials, resulting in a refreshing blend of creativity, sustainability and community spirit.

The extension counter features a vibrant, nature-inspired layout that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor areas. Designed to function as much more than a traditional postal counter, the space doubles as a work café, green corner and community hub, aligning with the college’s ethos of harmony with nature.

Among the key elements of the redesigned space is a nature-themed seating zone with picnic-style tables and a vertical garden. Seating made from refurbished tyres showcases students’ commitment to sustainability. A work-friendly counter ledge equipped with charging points caters to students using laptops and mobile devices.

The counter also includes a recreation and relaxation corner, complete with a bookshelf, board games and an indoor reading nook. India Post has installed a full MPCM booking counter, offering packaging materials and a MyStamp printer to enhance service accessibility.

The interiors, adorned with artwork created by students and college staff, celebrate India Post’s legacy, Kerala’s cultural heritage, the literacy-rich identity of Kottayam and nature-inspired motifs. The result is a warm, aesthetically appealing space designed to foster creativity and community engagement.

India Post has positioned this Gen-Z extension counter as a multifunctional space — a workplace, meeting spot, creative studio and relaxation zone — signalling a forward-looking shift in how postal services connect with the younger generation.
