India Launches Major Global Outreach to Combat Terrorism After Pahalgam Attack

New Delhi, 21st May: In a sweeping diplomatic move, India today launched a global outreach initiative targeting 33 countries, including members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to present a unified stance against terrorism in the aftermath of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

Seven parliamentary delegations comprising members from across the political spectrum will visit key nations and the UN to deliver India’s message of unity and resolve against terrorism.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who briefed the delegations on Tuesday, explained the selection of the countries. Of the 33 nations, 15 are members of the UNSC—five permanent and 10 non-permanent. Five others are set to join the UNSC in the near future. Additional countries with significant global influence were also chosen for the initiative.

BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, who is part of the delegation led by JDU’s Sanjay Kumar Jha, emphasized the urgency of the effort given Pakistan’s presence in the UNSC for the next 17 months. “Pakistan will attempt to push anti-India narratives. It is crucial that India presents its united stand globally and exposes Pakistan’s role in promoting terrorism,” she said.

Jha’s nine-member delegation, which includes MPs from BJP, CPM, and Trinamool Congress, is the first to depart, beginning with Japan. Their itinerary also includes Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and Singapore.

“Our message is clear—India stands united against terrorism,” said Sarangi. “MPs from different parties traveling together underscores national consensus. This outreach is our responsibility.”

The initiative follows Operation Sindoor, in which Indian forces earlier this month targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack.

The seven delegations will be led by senior parliamentarians including Shashi Tharoor (Congress), Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda (BJP), Sanjay Kumar Jha (JDU), Supriya Sule (NCP), Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena), and Kanimozhi (DMK).

Apart from meetings with political leaderships such as prime ministers and foreign ministers, the delegations will also engage with MPs, opposition figures, scholars, media professionals, and members of the Indian diaspora.

As India amplifies its voice on the world stage, this coordinated campaign seeks to rally international support for a stronger global stand against state-sponsored and cross-border terrorism.
