Amman, 16th Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday addressed the India–Jordan Business Forum in Amman, calling for stronger business-to-business engagement and urging industry leaders to convert untapped potential into concrete economic growth.

The Forum, attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, Jordan’s Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister of Investment, and leading business representatives, focused on expanding bilateral trade and investment. King Abdullah II highlighted that Jordan’s extensive Free Trade Agreements, combined with India’s economic strength, could help create an economic corridor linking South Asia, West Asia and beyond.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi proposed doubling bilateral trade between India and Jordan to USD 5 billion over the next five years. He said the two countries share a vibrant contemporary partnership rooted in deep civilisational ties and praised King Abdullah II’s leadership in positioning Jordan as a regional connector fostering growth and stability.

Highlighting India’s status as the fastest-growing major economy and its path towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, Modi invited Jordanian companies to partner with India’s large consumer market, strong manufacturing base and transparent policy ecosystem. He said India and Jordan could emerge as trusted global supply-chain partners.

The Prime Minister identified key areas for collaboration, including Digital Public Infrastructure, IT, fintech, health-tech and agri-tech, and encouraged startups from both countries to work together. He also underlined opportunities in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, agriculture, cold chains, fertilisers, infrastructure, automobiles, green mobility and heritage tourism.

Emphasising India’s green transition, Modi suggested deeper cooperation in renewable energy, green financing, desalination and water recycling.

The Forum witnessed participation from business leaders across sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, textiles, logistics, defence and manufacturing. Representatives from FICCI and the Jordan Chamber of Commerce were also present, building on their existing MoU to promote bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
