New Delhi, 23rd Jan: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the Shikshapatri Dwishatabdi Mahotsav through a video message, marking 200 years of Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s Shikshapatri.
The Prime Minister said the bicentenary celebration is a moment of great fortune and extended greetings to crores of followers of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. He said the occasion reflects India’s enduring spiritual and cultural traditions.
Highlighting India’s ancient knowledge heritage, the Prime Minister said the country has always been dedicated to the path of Jnanyoga and that the thousands of years old Vedas continue to inspire even today. He noted that from the Vedas emerged the Upanishads and Puranas, and that through shruti, smriti and oral traditions, this knowledge system has remained strong across generations.
The Prime Minister said Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s life was deeply connected with public education and public service. He said through the Shikshapatri, invaluable guidance for life was presented in simple and practical terms, making spiritual values accessible to society.
He said the bicentenary offers an opportunity to reflect on how the ideals of the Shikshapatri are being lived in daily life. The Prime Minister described Bhagwan Swaminarayan as a symbol of both spiritual practice and service, and praised the extensive social service initiatives being run by his followers in areas such as education, healthcare, farmers’ welfare and water conservation.
Referring to national campaigns, the Prime Minister said movements such as Swadeshi, Swachhata and “Vocal for Local” are reaching every household, and said linking these efforts with spiritual and social initiatives would make the bicentenary celebrations even more impactful.
The Prime Minister urged all enlightened organisations to extend cooperation to the Gyan Bharatam Mission, a national initiative to preserve ancient manuscripts. He stressed that India’s ancient knowledge and cultural identity must be protected, and said collective efforts would help take the mission to new heights.
He also referred to the ongoing Somnath Swabhiman Parv, marking a thousand-year journey since the first destruction of the Somnath temple, and urged people to join the celebrations and carry its message to the masses.
The Prime Minister concluded by expressing confidence that with the efforts of devotees, India’s development journey would continue to receive the blessings of Bhagwan Swaminarayan.
