WASHINGTON – India Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday said that India endorses the upcoming Summit meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the US President Donald Trump on August 15, noted that it holds the promise to end war in Ukraine.
MEA in a statement said that India endorses the upcoming Summit meeting, noting that it holds the promise of bringing an end to the Ukraine war
“This meeting holds the promise of bringing to an end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and opening up the prospects for peace. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said on several occasions, “This is not an era of war”. India, therefore, endorses the upcoming Summit meeting and stands ready to support these efforts,” the MEA said.
The statement came after Trump confirmed his meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15.
“The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska. Further details to follow,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
The announcement by Trump came on the day he had set as the deadline for Putin to make peace or face severe economic punishment.
According to reports, the US has briefed Ukraine and its European allies on a plan offered by Putin to halt the war in exchange for significant territorial concessions by Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he will not make any territorial concessions to Russia.
“Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier,” he said, adding Ukraine must be involved in the peace talks.
