India–Guyana Ties Get New Push at VP-Level Talks
Digital governance, energy, agriculture and Global South cooperation dominate discussions at Uprashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi, 23rd Feb: The Vice-President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo, called on the Vice-President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, at Uprashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday, with both leaders exploring avenues to deepen bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors.
The high-level interaction focused on expanding India–Guyana ties in digital governance, agriculture, healthcare, energy and multilateral coordination.
Dr. Jagdeo appreciated the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India’s progress in digital governance, particularly financial inclusion initiatives powered by UPI. The two sides discussed the possibility of adapting similar digital public infrastructure models in Guyana to enhance service delivery and financial access.
Wide-Ranging Sectoral Cooperation
The discussions covered collaboration in healthcare administration and hospital management, agricultural research and strengthening connectivity and logistics between the two nations.
Potential partnerships were also explored in information technology, Blue Economy initiatives, renewable energy, space cooperation, defence engagement, education, biodiversity conservation and climate action.
The Guyanese delegation expressed keen interest in India’s e-Migrate platform and the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme as effective mechanisms for capacity building and skill development.
Shared Commitment to the Global South
Reaffirming their shared vision for the Global South, both Vice-Presidents underscored the importance of coordinated efforts at global forums, including the United Nations Security Council and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, to strengthen the collective voice of developing nations.
The meeting also reflected cultural warmth, with both leaders acknowledging their shared passion for cricket and Guyana’s contribution to the sport.
