New Delhi, 26th March: Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday said India is on track to emerge as a global leader in 6G technology, targeting a 10% share in global patents.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, the minister highlighted the rapid expansion of the Bharat 6G Alliance, which has grown from 14 to 85 member institutions, bringing together telecom companies, startups, academia and research organisations.
He said India has already contributed around 4,000 patents in the 6G domain, with its proposal on ubiquitous connectivity gaining international acceptance from global bodies such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and 3GPP.
Scindia also underscored the role of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), established to strengthen India’s research ecosystem. The foundation aims to mobilise ₹50,000 crore between 2023 and 2028 to support innovation across sectors such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, quantum technologies and digital economy.
He noted that the government has introduced multiple initiatives, including advanced research grants and innovation programmes, to enhance participation and accelerate cutting-edge research.
Highlighting infrastructure development, the minister said projects such as a 6G terahertz testbed and spectrum roadmap have been initiated to support next-generation communication technologies.
The government has also launched a ₹1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) scheme to boost private sector participation and strengthen India’s capabilities in emerging technologies.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Scindia said India is building a strong foundation through collaboration, innovation and policy support to position itself at the forefront of global telecom advancements.
