Indian passport offers visa-free access to 57 countries, down from 62 last year

New Delhi, 15th Oct: India has slipped to the 85th position in the 2025 Henley Passport Index, offering visa-free travel to 57 countries, down from last year’s 80th rank with access to 62 destinations.
Singapore continues to hold the top position with visa-free access to 193 countries, followed by South Korea (190) and Japan (189). Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, and Switzerland share fourth place (188), while Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, and the Netherlands are fifth (187).
The United States fell out of the top 10 for the first time, sharing the 12th spot with Malaysia, both offering access to 180 countries.
India shares the 85th rank with Mauritania. Other visa-free destinations for Indian passport holders include Angola, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Iran, Jamaica, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
In the neighbourhood, Bhutan ranks 92nd, Sri Lanka 98th, Nepal 101st, Bangladesh 100th, and Pakistan 103rd. Afghanistan holds the lowest position globally with visa-free access to only 24 countries, followed by Syria and Iraq.
The Henley Passport Index, launched in 2005 and updated in 2018, ranks countries based on mobility freedom for their ordinary passport holders.
