India Declares Three-Day State Mourning on Demise of Pope Francis

New Delhi: The Government of India has declared a three-day State Mourning as a mark of respect following the demise of His Holiness Pope Francis, the Supreme Pontiff of the Holy See, who passed away today, April 21, 2025.

According to an official release by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the State Mourning will be observed across the country in the following manner:

  • Two days of State Mourning on Tuesday, April 22, and Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
  • One day of State Mourning on the day of the funeral of His Holiness.

During this period, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast on all buildings throughout India where it is regularly displayed. Additionally, there will be no official entertainment or ceremonial functions.
