Tianjin, 31st Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on Sunday, where he underlined India’s commitment to strengthening relations with China on the basis of mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity.
During the talks, the Prime Minister thanked President Xi for the warm welcome and recalled their “meaningful discussion” in Kazan last year, which, he said, had given a positive direction to bilateral ties. He noted that peace and stability had been established at the border following disengagement, with Special Representatives of the two nations reaching an understanding on border management.
PM Modi highlighted the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and the initiation of direct flights between India and China as signs of growing engagement. “The cooperation between us is linked to the interests of 2.8 billion people of our two nations. This will also pave the way for the welfare of all humanity,” he said.
Congratulating Xi Jinping on China’s successful presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the Prime Minister extended gratitude for the invitation to visit China and for the cordial meeting.
The meeting comes at a time when both nations are seeking to reset ties after years of strain, with trade, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges expected to play a key role in the next phase of engagement.
