India Cancels Pakistani Visas After Pahalgam Attack; Repatriation Begins in Uttarakhand

April 25, Uttarakhand: Following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir on April 22, 2025, the Government of India has taken a firm stand by canceling all regular Pakistani visas with immediate effect. According to official orders, regular visa holders must leave India by April 27, 2025, and those on medical visas are required to return by April 29, 2025.

In Uttarakhand, approximately 250 Pakistani nationals are currently residing across various districts like Dehradun, Haridwar, and Nainital. Among them, 247 are on Long Term Visas (LTV), primarily Pakistani Hindu migrants. The government has clarified that LTVs, along with Diplomatic and Official visas, are not revoked and remain valid. Thus, the majority of these residents are not affected by the cancellation order.

Meanwhile, three Pakistani nationals on Short Term Visas (STV) were also present in the state. Of these, two have already been repatriated, while the deportation process for the third is underway.

In accordance with the instructions from the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and the Ministry of External Affairs, the Director General of Police (DGP) has issued directives to all district SSPs and SPs to ensure proper compliance and monitoring. This move reflects India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and highlights a swift, decisive approach to national security concerns. Increased vigilance is being maintained in sensitive areas to prevent any untoward incident and ensure the safe and lawful execution of the repatriation process.
