New Delhi, 20th Feb: Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a bilateral meeting with Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Carlos Fávaro and Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture Luiz Paulo Teixeira Ferreira at Krishi Bhawan on Friday to strengthen India–Brazil cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors.
The discussions reviewed the status of ongoing cooperation and explored new avenues for partnership between the two major agricultural economies.
Chouhan highlighted the deep-rooted and friendly ties between India and Brazil, anchored in shared democratic values and regular high-level engagements, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Brazil during the BRICS Summit 2025. He described Brazil’s participation in the AI Impact Summit as a significant step towards deepening technological collaboration between the two countries.
Brazilian Minister Luiz Paulo Teixeira Ferreira emphasized the vast scope for enhanced cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors, noting that several areas offer mutual benefit. Minister Carlos Fávaro appreciated India’s innovations in bio-inputs and identified the sector as a priority area for further collaboration.
Both sides discussed expanding cooperation in areas such as sustainable agriculture, agrarian development, trade, and innovation-driven farming practices. The ministers agreed to work towards strengthening partnerships in both traditional and emerging domains of agriculture.
Chouhan also extended an invitation to his Brazilian counterparts to participate in the forthcoming BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting.
The Brazilian delegation included senior officials such as Wilson Gambogi Pingeiro Taques, Chief of Cabinet; Roberto Carlos Papa, Agricultural Attaché at the Embassy of Brazil; Luiz Renato de Alcantara Rua, Secretary at the Secretariat of Commerce and International Relations (MAPA); and Maurício Polidoro, International Advisor.
From the Indian side, Dr. Mangi Lal Jat, Secretary DARE; Dinesh Bhatia, Ambassador of India to Brazil; senior officials from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of External Affairs, ICAR, and NABARD were present during the meeting.
