New Delhi, 5th Feb. India actively participated in the inaugural session of the First G20 Education Working Group Meeting, conducted under the Brazilian Presidency. The virtual gathering marked the initiation of discussions on vital educational issues.
During the meeting, the Indian delegation reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to advancing the global education agenda.
Emphasizing the significance of capacity building for educational professionals, the delegation underscored the need for innovative teaching-learning methodologies and the integration of emerging technologies to foster inclusive and collaborative tech-enabled learning across all levels.
Furthermore, the Indian representatives highlighted the pivotal role of education in realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly through initiatives like Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE).
They shared insights on India’s educational best practices, guided by the National Education Policy 2020.
These initiatives encompassed a wide array of programs such as SWAYAM, SWAYAM PRABHA, Academic Bank of Credit, SAMARTH, National Professional Standards for Teachers, and the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme, among others.
Under Brazil’s leadership, the Education Working Group (EdWG) identified three key priorities for discussion:
1. Valuing and Building Capacity of Education Professionals: Exploring collective strategies for enhancing the skills and capabilities of educators.
2. Connecting Managers of Digital Resource Platforms: Facilitating the exchange of educational materials focused on Education for Sustainable Development.
3. The G20 Award for School-Community Engagement: Recognizing exemplary initiatives that promote engagement between schools and communities.
The discussions on these priorities will continue on the second day of the meeting scheduled for February 6, 2024.
The focus will shift towards deliberating on digital resource platforms and the award for school-community engagement, further advancing the objectives of the G20 Education Working Group.
