Mumbai, 7th Feb. The Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), in collaboration with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) India and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), hosted the inaugural ‘The Great Indian Board Reboot: Roadshow 2024’ at the NSE Headquarters in Mumbai on January 31, 2024.
This milestone event convened over 200 delegates, including esteemed business leaders, regulatory authorities, and corporate governance experts.
The roadshow spotlighted the evolving landscape of corporate governance, focusing on board renewal, diversity, and the integration of new technologies and regulatory frameworks. Dr. Niraj Gupta, Head of Corporate Governance & Public Policy at IICA, set the event’s tone with the opening address, while Mr. Mathew John, Programme Manager at IICA, extended a warm welcome to the attendees.
Keynote addresses by Mr. Ankit Sharma, Chief Regulatory Officer of NSE India, and Ms. Kamala K., Chief Regulatory Officer of BSE, emphasized the pivotal role of corporate governance in aligning economic, social, and community goals. They highlighted the necessity for diverse and adaptable board compositions to navigate future strategic challenges and industry disruptions.
The event featured two engaging panel discussions:
1. ‘Navigating Board Renewal Challenges and Opportunities’, moderated by Mr. Shailesh Haribhakti, Chairman of Blue Star Ltd, delved into the proactive measures boards must take to address technological advancements and foster innovation while safeguarding against disruption. Panelists emphasized the importance of continuous learning and the representation of diverse stakeholder interests.
2. ‘Gender Diversity and Beyond’, led by Mr. Deepak Shetty, Former Secretary, Government of India, underscored the need to broaden diversity beyond gender to include age, industry experience, and skills. Panelists discussed how diverse board compositions enhance corporate strategy and governance in the digital age.
Coordinated by Dr. Niraj Gupta, Mr. Mathew John, Mr. Manoj Singh, and Mr. Ashish Kumar of IICA, ‘The Great Indian Board Reboot: Roadshow 2024’ aims to redefine discussions on corporate governance in India, with its insights expected to shape the future direction of board compositions and governance practices in Indian corporations.
