Preventive action taken under BNSS to curb gang rivalries and safeguard public order

Hyderabad, 30th Nov: In a decisive move to curb escalating gang rivalry and ensure public safety, the Hyderabad Police have “bound over” 86 individuals linked to 10 rival gangs. The preventive action was taken under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, the provision that replaced Section 107 of the CrPC.
Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, acting as Additional District Magistrate (Executive), convened a special court at the Police Commissionerate to examine reports on notorious rowdy-sheeters, repeat offenders and rival groups, including the Deendar Anjuman faction in Asifnagar. The review covered activities across the South, Southeast and Southwest Zones.
Section 126 of the BNSS empowers an Executive Magistrate to intervene when individuals are likely to disturb public peace or cause unrest. It allows authorities to mandate a guarantee of good conduct before any crime occurs.
During the proceedings, detailed reports were presented documenting a pattern of violence, including murders, attempted murders and retaliatory gang clashes. After the hearings, all 86 accused were ordered to be “bound over” for a period of one year, requiring them to execute security bonds pledging peaceful behaviour.
The order is a stern warning: any violation during the period will result in immediate forfeiture of the security bond and separate legal action under the law. Authorities said the preventive move is aimed at breaking cycles of gang retaliation and reinforcing public safety across Hyderabad.
