New Delhi, 19th Feb: A parliamentary delegation from Hungary, led by Dr. Lajos Oláh, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, called on Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh at Parliament House on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Harivansh said parliamentary engagement is a key pillar of India–Hungary relations and complements government-level diplomacy by promoting dialogue and mutual understanding between lawmakers. He recalled his visit to Hungary in March 2024 and expressed hope for continued parliamentary exchanges.
Referring to the strong historical ties between the two countries, he noted that India and Hungary established diplomatic relations in 1948 and marked 75 years of ties in 2023. He underlined that both nations share a commitment to democratic governance, constitutionalism, rule of law, and representative institutions.
Highlighting India’s digital transformation, Harivansh said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is advancing on the principle of technology for public good. He referred to the ongoing AI Impact Summit in New Delhi and appreciated Hungary’s participation.
He outlined India’s flagship Digital Public Infrastructure initiatives, including Aadhaar, UPI, and DigiLocker, which have enabled paperless governance and improved service delivery. He said both countries could benefit from sharing experiences in artificial intelligence across sectors such as governance, education, healthcare, and parliamentary affairs.
On bilateral cooperation, Harivansh thanked Hungary for its support during Operation Ganga, when Indian nationals were evacuated from Ukraine.
He also highlighted education as an important area of collaboration and appreciated Hungary’s participation in specialised training programmes under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation initiative.
Secretary General of Rajya Sabha P. C. Mody and other senior officials were present during the meeting.
