Agartala, 3rd Dec. The All Tripura Hotel & Restaurant Owners’ Association (ATHROA) has announced that its members will refuse to serve Bangladeshi guests, following an incident in Bangladesh where the Indian flag was reportedly desecrated. The decision was made during an emergency meeting held on Monday, as confirmed by the association’s General Secretary, Saikat Bandyopadhyay.
“We are a secular country and have respect for all religions. However, the desecration of our national flag and the oppression faced by minorities in Bangladesh, particularly at the hands of a section of fundamentalists, has crossed a limit,” Bandyopadhyay said.
The association expressed concern over the growing attacks on religious minorities in Bangladesh, which they described as a deeply troubling situation. “We serve people coming to Tripura for various reasons, but we strongly condemn the treatment meted out to minorities in Bangladesh,” he added.
This move follows a similar action by ILS Hospital, a private multi-speciality hospital in Tripura, which declared it would not treat any patients from Bangladesh in protest against the ongoing atrocities against minorities in the neighboring country.
