Jaisalmer, 10th September. Union Home Minister Amit Shah offered prayers at the Tanot Mata temple in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district on Saturday morning.

He also unveiled a plaque and laid the foundation stone for tourism development work on the temple grounds.

The minister arrived in Jaisalmer on Friday evening and flew to Tanot on Saturday morning. He laid a floral wreath at the Vijay Stambh.

The BSF is in charge of the revered Tanot Mata temple, which is located near the India-Pakistan border. It is 120 kilometers away from Jaisalmer.

Tourist facilities will be built on the temple grounds as part of a Centre-funded project to promote border tourism.

Several bombs were dropped on the temple during the India-Pakistan war in 1965, but none exploded. The temple has these unexploded bombs on display.

During the Longewala battle of the 1971 war, Pakistani tanks became stuck in the sand near the temple and were easily bombed by the Indian Air Force.

Before departing for the Jaisalmer air force station, Shah met with BSF officials in Tanot.

He is scheduled to travel to Jodhpur, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s hometown, to address the valedictory session of the BJP’s OBC Morcha’s national-level meeting.

Following that, Shah will deliver the inaugural address to the BJP’s booth-level workers.

In Jodhpur, BJP officials said the home minister would be greeted warmly. According to reports, over 1,500 party workers wearing saffron turbans and riding motorcycles will accompany him from the airport to the meeting location.

The two-day working committee meeting was inaugurated on Friday morning by National President of the BJP OBC Morcha K Laxman, Union Labour Minister Bhupender Yadav, and Rajasthan BJP chief Satish Poonia.

Shah will address the BJP’s booth-level workers at Jodhpur’s Dussehra Ground shortly after the party’s OBC Morcha meeting. For the meeting, the party is mobilizing booth-level workers from across the division.

“The party workers’ meeting will be historic,” a senior BJP official said.

The BJP’s OBC Morcha’s national working committee meeting in Jodhpur aims to strengthen the party’s OBC vote bank in the state ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections.

Gehlot, who is also from the OBC community, was born in Jodhpur.

The BJP also wants to gauge its strength in the western part of the state ahead of the assembly elections.

Jodhpur, also known as Marwar, is Rajasthan’s largest division, consisting of six districts: Jodhpur, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Sirohi, and Pali.

Jodhpur division has 33 Assembly constituencies, including 10 in Jodhpur district. The BJP currently holds 14 seats, the Congress 17, and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party and Independents each have one.

“OBC is a vast community. It is with the BJP ideology. This is the first time in the BJP regime that we have 27 ministers from this community. Also the OBC commission has been given constitutional recognition by the Narendra Modi government,” Poonia said.
