Ahmedabad, 7th Dec: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development works worth ₹1,500 crore under the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in Gujarat. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and senior dignitaries were present at the event.

In his address, Shah said India has achieved major milestones in national security, economic growth, infrastructure expansion and poverty alleviation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that the country’s civilizational values, culture and Sanatan Dharma now command greater respect worldwide.

Shah highlighted Gujarat’s rapid development, noting that the world’s largest renewable energy park is being built in the state, while Asia’s largest greenfield city is taking shape in Dholera. He also pointed to Gujarat’s role in pioneering major infrastructure projects, including India’s first international financial hub GIFT City, the Ahmedabad–Mumbai bullet train corridor and the upcoming Namo Rapid Rail service from Bhuj to Ahmedabad.

Calling for collective resolve to make the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad a grand success, Shah said India was awarded hosting rights after comparing sports facilities, infrastructure and youth engagement across more than 70 countries. He added that Ahmedabad is emerging as a global sports hub, with the Narendra Modi Stadium, the upcoming Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, and 13 international-level sporting events planned in the coming years. The city, he said, is also a strong contender for the 2036 Olympic Games.

Shah said sports infrastructure in Ahmedabad has transformed dramatically, with modern sports complexes, coaching centres, libraries, yoga spaces and open gyms now available across the city. He said these facilities will eventually make Ahmedabad a premier international training destination.

The Home Minister said today’s programme included inaugurations worth ₹26 crore, launches worth ₹30 crore and two housing allotment draws — 58 works in total. He praised the state government for continuing the development journey begun under Narendra Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister.

Commenting on national politics, Shah asserted that NDA victories since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections reflect public trust in welfare-driven governance. He criticised the opposition for blaming EVMs and voter lists instead of addressing public issues, adding, “Neither the EVM nor the voter list is faulty — the people are not accepting the opposition.” He further predicted major setbacks for opposition parties in Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

Shah also highlighted the cultural and spiritual milestones achieved under the Modi government, including the Ram Temple groundbreaking in 2019, consecration in 2024 and saffron flag hoisting in 2025. He noted that a temple for Mother Sita is also underway, with the saffron flag expected to be raised there by 2026.

Marking Armed Forces Flag Day, Shah paid tribute to the soldiers of the Army, Navy and Air Force, acknowledging their sacrifices and calling for citizens’ contributions towards their welfare.

He said the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency aims to become the most developed region in the country, and urged residents to participate in a monsoon plantation drive by planting 5 to 50 trees per society. He stressed that expanding green cover is vital for ensuring clean air and a healthy environment for future generations.
