Aizawl, 28th Feb. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate a new Assam Rifles complex in Mizoram on March 17, said Chief Minister Zoramthanga.
According to the CM, Shah will dedicate the Assam Rifles complex in Zokhawsang, near Aizawl.
The relocation of the Assam Rifles camp from the heart of Aizawl to Zokhawsang, about 15 kilometers from the city, was one of the top priorities of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) in the November 2018 assembly elections.
The Union Home Ministry directed the Assam Rifles in February 2019 to relocate their battalion headquarters to Zokhawsang by May 31 of that year.
The Assam Rifles, the country’s oldest paramilitary force, has two bases in the city, in Zodin and Khatla. The one in Zodin has been relocated to Zokhawsang.
During a meeting with Amit Shah in November last year, Zoramthanga informed the Union home minister that the delay in the relocation of the Assam Rifles camp was causing delays in state capital infrastructure projects.
