Guwahati, 30th Dec: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah on Monday inaugurated the Jyoti–Bishnu International Cultural Centre at Khanapara, marking a historic milestone in Assam’s cultural journey.

Built at a cost of ₹291 crore, the grand auditorium—named in honour of legendary cultural icons Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha—boasts a massive seating capacity of 5,000, making it one of the largest and most modern cultural venues in eastern India.

Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said Assam is rapidly transforming into a cultural and connectivity gateway to Southeast Asia. He stated that the long-pending demand for an international-level cultural performance venue in the state has now been fulfilled.

An emotional highlight of the event was when 1,000 children who had recovered from congenital heart disease under a state-supported programme greeted the Union Minister. Officials revealed that over 13,000 children have received life-saving treatment under the initiative in the past 15 years.

Artists and cultural scholars hailed the centre as a game-changer for Assam’s performing arts ecosystem. The auditorium is expected to host major national and global cultural festivals, theatre productions, music concerts, and international conferences.

With this landmark inauguration, Assam strengthens its cultural infrastructure while reaffirming its place on the global cultural map.
