“Hindus Unsafe in Bengal, President’s Rule Only Option”: VHP Rages in Nagpur Protests

Nagpur: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal staged fierce protests across nearly 50 locations in Nagpur and the Vidarbha region on Saturday, slamming the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government over alleged atrocities against Hindus. Protesters raised slogans demanding the imposition of President’s Rule in the state and submitted a memorandum to the President through the Nagpur District Collector, calling for immediate intervention to end the “persecution of Hindus.”

VHP and Bajrang Dal alleged that Bengal has witnessed a systematic pattern of violence, including attacks on sadhus, mistreatment of Hindu women, and arson targeting Hindu homes and property. They cited instances of communal tension especially post-panchayat and assembly elections, accusing the Trinamool Congress government of failing to maintain law and order.

“Saints can’t even walk with chimtas in West Bengal. Hindu women aren’t safe, and their properties are being attacked. The situation is alarming,” said Amol Thakre, head of VHP Nagpur. He warned that Bajrang Dal is only awaiting orders from senior saints and leaders — once given, thousands of activists would march to Bengal to “protect Hindu brothers.”

While the West Bengal government has repeatedly denied such allegations, asserting that the law-and-order situation is under control, VHP activists remain adamant. The organization demanded urgent central government intervention, stating that Hindus in Bengal are living in fear under the current regime.

During the protests, slogans against Mamata Banerjee’s government echoed at major intersections in Nagpur, with demonstrators urging the public to rise in support of Hindus in Bengal. Protests were also reported in other towns and cities across Vidarbha.
