Himanta Biswa Sarma to be the Assam’s Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal resigns

Guwahati, 9th May. Name for the Chief Minister in the state have been decided after a historic victory of BJP in Assam. The current Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal submitted his resignation to Governor Jagdish Mukhi amid speculations about the face of Assam’s next CM post. The name of Himanta Biswa Sarma has been announced today as the new Chief Minister of Assam after the continuous discussions in the BJP for the last several days. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, who was sent as the observer of Assam, informed after the Legislature Party meeting that Hemant Biswa Sarma will take oath as CM on Monday as the new Chief Minister of Assam. There was a lot of churn in the BJP over the new Chief Minister of Assam. This is the reason that both Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sarbananda Sonowal were called to Delhi and party president JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke separately to the two leaders.

Himanta Biswa Sarma has managed to win for the fifth consecutive time from the Jalukbari assembly seat of Assam. Himanta Biswa Sarma retained the Jalukbari seat by defeating Romain Chandra Borthakur of Congress by a margin of 1,01,911 votes in the assembly elections. Himanta Biswa Sarma joined BJP in the year 2015. Himant Biswa Sarma has played an important role in the 2016 assembly elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
