Himachal School Principal’s Cheque Goes Viral Over Spelling Blunders

GG News Bureau
Shimla, 30th Sept: A cheque issued by a government school principal in Himachal Pradesh has gone viral on social media after glaring spelling mistakes turned it into a subject of mockery.

The cheque, dated September 25, was reportedly issued to a mid-day worker, Atter Singh, for ₹7,616. However, the bank rejected it due to multiple spelling errors.

Instead of writing the amount in words correctly, the issuer spelt seven as saven, replaced thousand with Thursday, and wrote hundred as harendra. Finally, instead of sixteen, he wrote sixty.

While it remains unclear whether the senior secondary school principal himself wrote the cheque, questions have been raised over his failure to check the errors before signing it.

The incident triggered sharp criticism on social media. One user remarked, “This is the condition of teachers, which is why no one wants to send their children to government schools. People like us, who have studied in government schools, feel very sad. Well, systems are changing everywhere, so why should schools be left out?”

Another user quipped, “Fault in autocorrect system of pen!” Some also linked the incident to systemic issues, questioning recruitment and the reservation system, while calling for a merit-based approach in appointing key positions.

The viral cheque has reignited debate on accountability and quality in government-run schools.
