New Delhi, 29th Feb. Six Congress MLAs from Himachal Pradesh who defected and cross-voted for the BJP during the recent Rajya Sabha election have been disqualified. The announcement came today from the assembly Speaker, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, marking a decisive turn in the state’s political landscape.
The BJP had previously hailed the actions of these six MLAs as acts of courage, applauding their decision to support the party in the assembly. However, their move has now resulted in disqualification, underlining the complexities within the state’s political dynamics.
The disqualified MLAs are Rajinder Rana, Sudhir Sharma, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, Devinder Kumar Bhutoo, Ravi Thakur, and Chetanya Sharma.
Their disqualification stems from their defiance of the party whip to vote in favor of the government on the Finance Bill during the assembly session.
Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania emphasized that their actions were in direct violation of party directives, leading to their disqualification from holding office. This decision sends a clear message regarding the repercussions of disregarding party discipline within the legislative framework.
Moreover, in a related development, the assembly passed the state Budget following the suspension of 15 BJP MLAs.
