Heavy Fog Blankets Parts of Delhi, Temperature Drops to 9.4 degrees Celsius

Parts of Delhi experienced very dense to dense fog on Friday morning, with the minimum temperature settling at 9.4 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The weather office has predicted shallow to moderate fog and cold day conditions in some areas of the national capital throughout the day.
Early in the morning, isolated pockets in Punjab and Delhi observed very dense fog, while parts of Delhi were enveloped in dense fog, as reported by the IMD.

At 8:30 am, the Safdarjung Observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 9.4 degrees Celsius, which is more than two notches above normal. However, the Ridge Observatory recorded a low of 9.1 degrees Celsius.

An orange alert has been issued for Delhi, with the possibility of shallow to moderate fog and cold day conditions in a few places, according to officials.

At 8:30 am, the visibility at Palam was only 50 meters.

Railway officials reported that 22 trains were running late due to poor visibility.

On Thursday, Delhi had a minimum temperature of 7.7 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal, and a maximum temperature of 12.5 degrees Celsius.

As per the data from the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was 352 (very poor) at 9 am on Friday.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
