Haryana Shocker: Woman Raped and Murdered by Father-in-Law, Buried Outside Home

Faridabad, 27th June: In a horrific case that has sent shockwaves across the country, a 24-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly raped and murdered by her father-in-law in Haryana’s Faridabad, with her body buried in a 10-foot-deep pit outside her marital home and concealed under a concrete slab for nearly two months.

The victim, a native of Firozabad, had married into a family in Faridabad in July 2023. She had reportedly faced continuous dowry harassment since the early days of her marriage, according to statements by her family.

Her body was recovered on June 21, following a police investigation that was launched after her in-laws reported her missing in late April. Police sources revealed disturbing details of premeditated murder and sexual assault, including a confession by the father-in-law, who is currently in custody under a three-day police remand.

Premeditated Crime and Shocking Confession
According to police, the plan to kill the woman was finalised on April 14. On April 21, her husband allegedly mixed sleeping pills into her and her sister-in-law’s food. After the woman fell unconscious in a separate room, the father-in-law entered and raped her, police said, quoting his custodial confession. He then summoned his son, and together, they allegedly wrapped her body and disposed of it in a pit dug days earlier under the guise of drainage repair work.

Neighbours, unaware of the real purpose of the excavation, assumed it was for sewerage work. After placing the body inside, the accused filled the pit with bricks and soil, later sealing it with a concrete slab. The father-in-law then filed a missing person’s complaint on April 25, creating a false trail, police said.

FIR Filed Against Four Family Members
The victim’s partially decomposed body was found following sustained police efforts and was sent for autopsy. An FIR has been registered against four members of the family — the father-in-law, mother-in-law, husband, and sister-in-law — for murder, rape, and criminal conspiracy.

According to the victim’s sister, the woman was subjected to repeated abuse and had returned to her parental home for over a year shortly after her wedding due to domestic violence. The in-laws, she said, had been demanding more dowry and had expressed dissatisfaction with the gifts received during the wedding. Police have confirmed that dowry harassment is being investigated as a possible motive.

Authorities continue to question the remaining accused and are working to gather forensic and testimonial evidence to build a watertight case.

The heinous nature of the crime has prompted widespread outrage, with women’s rights groups demanding stringent action and swift justice.
