Chandigarh, 20th Jan. Ashok Tanwar, the former president of the Haryana Congress, who recently left the Aam Aadmi Party, is expected to join the BJP. The ruling party aims to expand its support base in the state by including the Dalit leader.
Tanwar left the Congress in 2019 and joined the AAP in 2022. During this time, he formed his own party and briefly joined the Trinamool Congress.
Sources from the BJP have stated that Tanwar is likely to join their party.
He resigned from the AAP on Thursday, expressing his opposition to the party’s potential alliance with the Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP hopes that Tanwar’s inclusion will strengthen their efforts to consolidate their votes in the state. The Jats, the most populous caste in Haryana, are believed to be leaning towards the Congress in many areas.
Furthermore, assembly elections are scheduled to take place in the state later this year. The BJP has been in power in Haryana since 2014, with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar leading the state throughout this entire period.
