Guwahati, 28th Dec: A strong protest was witnessed in Guwahati’s Chandmari area on December 27 against the alleged atrocities, violence and killings of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. The demonstration was jointly organised by several Hindu organisations, including the Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad Assam, Rashtriya Hindu Front Assam and Hindu Ekta Manch.

Hundreds of activists gathered outside the office of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, voicing deep concern over the safety of minority Hindus in the neighbouring country. The organisations alleged that members of the Hindu community in Bangladesh are being repeatedly targeted, with reports of attacks on homes, damage to temples and killings of innocent Hindus.

Carrying banners and placards, the protesters raised slogans demanding an end to the violence and warning the interim leadership in Bangladesh. During the protest, photographs and an effigy of interim leader Mohammad Yunus were also burnt, further heightening the intensity of the demonstration.

Leaders of the participating organisations said the issue goes beyond human rights and strikes at the core of religious freedom and minority protection. They urged the international community and the Government of India to take serious note of the situation and press the Bangladesh authorities to ensure safety for Hindu minorities.

At the conclusion of the protest, a memorandum was submitted to the Bangladesh mission. The memorandum demanded strict action against those responsible for communal violence, immediate steps to curb religious attacks and concrete assurances for the protection of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.

Protesters warned that if the alleged atrocities do not stop, larger nationwide movements will follow. Adequate police deployment remained in place throughout the demonstration to maintain law and order.
