Ahmedabad, 15th Dec.
Gujarat, with its 4,000 manufacturing units, has been leading India’s pharmaceutical industry and serving as a hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and exports, according to the state government.

The state provides employment to approximately 50,000 individuals in these manufacturing units, which produce allopathic, homoeopathic, ayurvedic, and cosmetic drugs.

Gujarat is responsible for 53% of India’s medical devices manufacturing and 78% of the country’s cardiac stents manufacturing.

Additionally, 40% of the nation’s contract research organizations are based in Gujarat.

In preparation for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor Summit, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized the state’s significant role in the pharmaceutical sector. He stated that Gujarat contributes 30% of India’s pharmaceutical production and 28% of total pharmaceutical exports.

The summit, which aims to promote Gujarat as an attractive investment destination, will take place in January next year in Gandhinagar.

Experts predict that Gujarat’s share in the global pharmaceutical industry will soar, considering the issuance of over 700 pharma manufacturing licenses from 2020 to 2022.

Furthermore, 130 Gujarat registered pharma companies are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), and 753 units have received WHO Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) approval.

Sharad Patel, chairman of Sotac Pharmaceutical Limited, praised the impact of the Vibrant Gujarat initiative on the growth of businesses in the pharma sector.

He attributed the vibrant and prosperous environment to the leadership of Narendra Modi. Gujarat’s pharmaceutical sector is known for its innovation and has expanded its operations to include the production of generics, research and development (R&D), contract research and manufacturing organizations (CRAMS), bulk drug production, and new chemical entities (NCE), as stated by the state government.
