Guest Teacher Brutally Murdered in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur

GG News Bureau
Bijapur, 30th Aug:
In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old temporary guest teacher, identified as Kallu Tati, was brutally murdered by unidentified assailants with sharp-edged weapons in Todka village under Gangloor police station area of Bijapur district, police confirmed on Saturday.

Tati, who worked as a Shiksha Doot (education volunteer) in Lendra village, was attacked late Friday night. While no Maoist pamphlets were recovered from the spot, officials suspect Naxal involvement, given the recurring pattern of targeting teachers in Bastar.

Pattern of Attacks on Teachers

According to police records, at least seven guest teachers have been killed in Bastar division in the past three years—five of them in 2025 alone. The latest murder follows a string of similar incidents:

  • August 27: Guest teacher killed in Sukma
  • August 15: Another teacher murdered in Narayanpur
  • July: Two Shiksha Doots killed in Bijapur’s Farsegarh area
  • February 19: A teacher and a villager killed in Dantewada

The Bastar region, spanning Bijapur, Sukma, Dantewada, and Narayanpur, continues to be a Maoist stronghold where civilians suspected of aiding the police are frequently targeted.

Civilian Casualties Rising

Police data shows 24 civilians killed in Naxal-related violence in 2025 so far, compared to 71 deaths in 2024. Officials say intensified anti-Maoist operations have led to retaliatory attacks on civilians, particularly government workers, police informers, and education volunteers.

Shiksha Doot Scheme Under Threat

The Shiksha Doot scheme, launched to reopen schools in conflict-hit areas, has come under direct threat from Naxals. Teachers like Tati, tasked with reviving education in villages, are increasingly branded as “police collaborators” by insurgents.

Just weeks ago, six people—including two students—were killed in Bijapur on suspicion of being police informers. Officials fear such targeted violence is an attempt to derail government initiatives in Naxal-affected areas.

Security Response

A senior police officer said security forces have launched a manhunt to trace the culprits behind Tati’s murder.

“We are fully committed to ensuring justice for the victim and will continue operations against insurgents spreading terror in the region,” he added.
