Sambhal, 5th July: Eight people, including a groom, his sister and three children, were killed after a car carrying more than 12 passengers lost control and crashed into a college wall in Sambhal district late Friday night.
According to police, the overloaded vehicle was en route to a wedding function when it veered off the road and slammed into the boundary wall of a local college. The impact of the crash was so severe that several passengers died on the spot, while others sustained serious injuries.
Senior police officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police Anukriti Sharma and the Circle Officer, reached the accident site along with teams from Junawai police station. The injured were immediately rushed to the nearby government hospital for treatment.
“Eight people have lost their lives in the unfortunate incident. The car was overcrowded and apparently lost control. A detailed investigation is underway,” said ASP Sharma.
The deceased include the groom, his sister, three children, and three other relatives. The tragedy has cast a pall over the wedding celebrations and left the local community in shock.
Authorities are examining whether negligence or speeding contributed to the fatal accident.
