New Delhi, 28th July: The spirit of Rajasthan’s vibrant Teej festival enveloped New Delhi on Sunday, July 27, 2025, as a grand Teej Mata procession was taken out with great pomp and show at Bikaner House as part of its ongoing week-long Teejotsav, which continues until July 30.
The festivities at Bikaner House saw Teej Mata adorned in a palanquin, ceremoniously carried by four traditional pallbearers around the premises. Smt. Anju Omprakash, Additional Resident Commissioner, informed that approximately 51 women enhanced the procession’s beauty with a ‘Mangal Kalash Yatra’ (auspicious pot procession). The procession was led by Rajasthani folk artists, who captivated the audience with traditional performances such as ‘Mashak Vadan’ (bagpipe music) and ‘Kachhi Ghodi’ (dummy horse dance). Hundreds of men and women, dressed in diverse traditional attire, joined the procession, singing auspicious songs and worshipping Teej Mata. She noted that the Sunday holiday drew a large number of visitors from various parts of Delhi, who eagerly purchased Rajasthani delicacies and handcrafted products available at the festival.

Cultural Extravaganza at Bikaner House and Delhi Haat
Following the Teej Mata procession, a cultural evening brimming with Rajasthani art and culture entertained the attendees at Bikaner House. Smt. Rinku Meena, Joint Resident Commissioner, highlighted that the colorful cultural program, organized by the Tourist Welcome Centre, was a resounding success. Shri Chhatrapal Yadav, Assistant Director, Tourism Department, elaborated on the performances, stating that folk artists from various regions of Rajasthan, including Bikaner, Tonk, Churu, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Baran, Deeg, and Alwar, presented a diverse range of acts. These included Mashak Vadan, Kachhi Ghodi, Bhopa Vadan and Gayan, Khartal Vadan and Gayan, Chari Dance, Chakri Dance, Chang Dhap Dance, Ghoomar Dance, Kalbelia Dance, and the renowned Mayur (Peacock) Dance, concluding with a vibrant ‘Phoolon ki Holi’ (Holi with flowers).

In a parallel celebration, the Rajasthan Tourism Department also organized a musical cultural evening at Delhi Haat in INA on Sunday, extending the festive spirit across the capital. This event showcased additional performances such as Bhapang Vadan, alongside Kachhi Ghodi, Chari Dance, Ghoomar Dance, Mayur Dance, and Phoolon ki Holi. The evening also featured a notable Indian classical Kathak dance performance by Kathak dancers Ms. Sukriti Agarwal and Ms. Bheetika Raheja, who received immense applause from the audience.

The weekly Teejotsav at Bikaner House will continue until July 30, offering Rajasthani delicacies, handcrafted products, and various traditional games.
