New Delhi, 2th March: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday urged Indian industry to fully leverage free trade agreements (FTAs) with developed nations by focusing on quality and competitiveness.

Addressing a CSR and scholarship event in the national capital, the minister said India has signed nine FTAs with 38 developed countries in recent years, covering a major share of global trade. He noted that these agreements provide Indian exporters preferential access to international markets, often at reduced or zero duty.

Goyal emphasised that sectors such as MSMEs, agriculture, fisheries and traditional artisans stand to gain from these opportunities, provided they maintain high standards of quality in production and services.

Highlighting the role of corporate responsibility, the minister praised initiatives that go beyond statutory CSR requirements, calling them reflective of India’s deep-rooted culture of voluntary charity and social contribution.

He said such efforts play a vital role in supporting education, skill development and welfare initiatives, citing the scholarship programme benefiting thousands of children as an example.

Underlining the importance of inclusive development, Goyal said the government is committed to ensuring access to basic necessities such as housing, healthcare, education, electricity and digital connectivity for all citizens.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, he stressed that collective effort and unity are essential to achieving the goal of a developed India.

The minister also highlighted the importance of skill development, language training and education in preparing India’s youth for global opportunities, especially in a rapidly evolving economic landscape.

Despite global uncertainties and disruptions in trade, Goyal said India remains focused on strengthening its economic engagement and expanding opportunities for its citizens.
