New Delhi, 11th Dec: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Thursday inaugurated NEST-02 (New Enterprises & Services Tower – Phase 2) at the Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ) in Mumbai, calling for a renewed push towards transparency, ethical governance and industry-led skilling initiatives.
Goyal said the rapid economic momentum achieved under Prime Minister Narendra Modi must be mirrored by SEEPZ, which he urged to modernise its functioning and align itself with India’s broader growth trajectory. Stressing the need for robust skilling programmes, the Minister asked SEEPZ units to expand training—particularly for specially-abled youth—and take greater responsibility for preparing a future-ready workforce.
Highlighting the government’s governance principles, Goyal underscored that transparency, integrity and accountability must define the operations of SEEPZ. He called upon industry representatives to work collaboratively with the administration to maintain a clean and transparent ecosystem. Fair utilisation of space, he said, must be ensured through auction-based allotments and rigorous adherence to proper procedures.
The Minister also encouraged stakeholders to review unused plots and work with the managing committee to boost export capacity. He reiterated the need for full transparency in approvals, customs, maintenance contracts and all administrative processes.
During the visit, Goyal reviewed ongoing infrastructure upgrades, including improvements to internal roads, landscaping and overall aesthetics. He said SEEPZ should reflect the standards of a modern, forward-looking India and serve as a benchmark for Special Economic Zones nationwide.
Pointing to the government’s reform push—such as the Jan Vishwas Bills, decriminalisation measures and compliance simplification—Goyal said these initiatives are built on trust between the government and industry. He urged unit holders to uphold this trust through ethical and transparent practices.
Reaffirming the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Minister said industry and government must jointly strengthen domestic capabilities, champion Swadeshi, maintain global-quality standards and prepare for opportunities aligned with the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Goyal concluded by expressing confidence that SEEPZ can evolve into a world-class production and export hub, reflecting India’s economic ambition and resilience.
