New Delhi, 28th Aug: The Central Government has announced an extension of the import duty exemption on cotton (HS 5201) till 31st December 2025, in a bid to support the textile industry and exporters.
Earlier, the government had temporarily exempted cotton import duty from 19th August 2025 to 30th September 2025. The fresh decision extends this exemption by another three months, ensuring a smoother supply of cotton for the domestic textile sector, which has been facing pressure due to fluctuating prices and rising demand.
Officials said a detailed notification on the extended exemption will follow shortly. The move is expected to boost the availability of raw material, improve competitiveness of Indian textiles in global markets, and provide relief to exporters.
