New Delhi, 29th Feb. The Indian government has officially declared the Muslim Conference Jammu & Kashmir (Sumji faction) and Muslim Conference Jammu & Kashmir (Bhat faction) as Unlawful Associations, effective immediately and for a duration of five years under Section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah in a post on X platform said that “Striking terror networks with undiminished vehemence the government has declared the Muslim Conference Jammu & Kashmir (Sumji faction) and Muslim Conference Jammu & Kashmir (Bhat faction) as Unlawful Associations. These outfits have been engaging in activities against the sovereignty and integrity of the nation. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s government is determined to uproot terrorism and anyone involved in unlawful activities will face dire consequences.”
The Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Sumji faction) has been implicated in various unlawful activities, including support for terrorist endeavors aimed at the separation of Jammu and Kashmir from India. Numerous criminal cases, including those under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, have been lodged against this faction and its members.
Similarly, the Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Bhat faction) has been accused of promoting secessionist movements in Jammu and Kashmir by endorsing terrorism and engaging in unlawful activities. Criminal cases under various legal provisions, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, have been registered against this faction and its members as well.
